Archaeological findings from the Copper Age confirm that the municipal area of Fiè allo Sciliar has been settled since the 4th millennium BC. The village was first mentioned in a document in 888 under the name “Fellis” in a deed issued by King Arnulf. The Prince-Bishops of Brixen spent their summer retreat here, and Leonhard von Völs had both his residence and official seat at Prösels Castle.
It was not strategic importance that shaped the village’s history, but rather its exceptionally healthy climate, which early on made Fiè a sought-after place of relaxation. Even then, nobles, clergy and wealthy citizens came here for their summer retreat – a peaceful refuge to recharge in the clear mountain air. As early as the 19th century, merchants from Bolzano chose St. Konstantin and the area around the Völser Weiher for their summer holidays.
