The history of the Hotel Emmy in Fiè allo Sciliar
1962
Bruno Pardatscher, a fruit merchant from Bolzano, buys the Merlhof property and starts building a holiday villa on it. Luis and Emmy Kaslatter, operators of the “Bar Gries” in Bolzano, buy the building shell.
1963
Luis and Emmy Kaslatter open the guest house “EMMY” after renovation. A female manager runs the business.
1964
The owners take over the management of the facility.
1972
In 1972, the business is expanded by a second house, under the direction of the architect Marius Scrinzi and an indoor swimming pool is installed on the ground floor.
1976
In 1976, according to plans by Hanspeter Demetz, a car park is built on the southern side of the new building. In the basement five new suites are created, which still exist today (rooms 101-105). The EMMY becomes a widely known hotel business.
1980-90
Luis Kasslatter dies in a car accident. The hotel is run by his wife, who introduces an absolute novelty: multiphase oxygen therapy, a (controversial) method developed at the time of the DDR by the independent researcher Prof. Manfred von Ardenne (1907-1997), which brought several famous people to the hotel.
1996
Major reconstructions take place under the direction of Manfred Wachter, the main body of the building is considerably extended by raising the parking area. At the same time, three floors were added to the first building to extend the dining room and to accommodate guest rooms and massage spaces. The purchase of an underground right from the Moarhof makes the construction of a garage possible, which replaces the missing parking spaces. The expensive garage construction in particular puts the hotel in financial difficulties, and other bad decisions accelerate the decline.
2010
Mrs. Emmy Kasslatter dies. Her son Ivo takes over the management of the hotel but in the same year, he is forced to declare bankruptcy. In October Mr. and Mrs. Scherlin, an hotelier’s family from the Alpe di Siusi, buy the property.
2011
On 18/01 at 16:15 a fire breaks out on the second floor of the main building and soon spreads to the roof. The damage caused by the fire is enormous; water damage occurs on the lower floors. More than 100 firefighters are on duty until well into the night. The cause of the fire turns out to be a melted electrical cable.
Architects Hugo and Hanspeter Demetz later redesigned the hotel. The new building is opened to the public again on 13.5.2012.
